MAKE A DIFFERENCE WHILE YOU DISTANCE!
April 22, 2020 marks the 50th anniversary of Earth Day around the world, and is the ideal day to reflect on these words from the New Creed of the UCC:
We are called to be the Church:
to celebrate God’s presence,
to live with respect in Creation,
to love and serve others.
As stewards of God’s creation, this is the perfect time to take action to repair this little corner of the earth that we live in by participating in the Rideau Lakes ‘Pitch In’ challenge. This program unites township residents by offering the opportunity to clean up all the trash we see emerging beside our local roads as spring arrives. Yellow garbage bags for collecting roadside trash are available for free in the lobby of the township office Monday to Friday from 8:30-4:30. When full, these bags can be placed out with your regular garbage and no bag tag is required. Amy Schur, the township coordinator for this program, would like to know the number of bags you are using and the roads you are cleaning so she can report to council (firstname.lastname@example.org)
With over 600 km. of public roads in the township, you can easily choose an area to clean up and still maintain social distancing! Inspire and challenge other members of our church family by taking a picture of your clean up efforts and send it in to Rev. Takouhi to be included in our e-news. While you work to respect creation and repair the earth, make sure to look past the garbage. As you do, you will see God’s gift of new life all around you, and hope will be restored.
