EPPC – Official Board Letter – Continued Church Building Closures

June 17, 2020

Dear EPPC Friends and Family,

The Official Board of the Elgin-Portland Pastoral Charge met on Tuesday evening, June 16, and the primary discussion surrounded the closure of churches to services for the foreseeable future.

The recommendations from the Ontario Government and Local Health Unit were reviewed, and the recommendation from our own area, the E.O.O.R.C. was considered seriously.  Primary in our concerns is the general fragility of our congregations, and the care we want to take to ensure that everyone stays safe.

We have all been living through an unprecedented time over these past few months as we live with the reality of COVID-19.  We are aware of the struggles – both financial and emotional – that individuals are experiencing, and our Communities of Faith are no exception.  People are longing for things to return to “normal”, but whatever that is in the future is yet to be seen. We have all worked hard to “flatten the curve” but we still need to be vigilant.

To this end, the following motion was made and approved:  that EPPC stay closed until at least September.  This issue will be re-visited at the next O.B. meeting on August 22.

We do not know what to expect in September.  Will we be reassured that Covid is under control, or will we experience what is called “the second wave?”  We are not prepared to take chances with anyone’s safety, and so, until at least Labour Day, please continue to enjoy our weekly services on YouTube.  Many thanks to Rev. T. and company for all the hard work in producing them.  At the next O.B. meeting, we will discuss the issue again and make decisions about how to proceed.

While we may feel that church worship services are essential, please remember that our church members are not expendable!

Your continued support is appreciated!  Stay in touch with each other, stay safe and be healthy!
