EPPC News for Portland United Church
As everyone knows, the province is on lockdown through the end of January
and there can only be 10 people maximum, socially distanced in church services.
We don’t know what will happen after the end of January.
Your Portland United Church Council will be meeting on Wednesday, February 3
by Zoom to discuss next steps once the Province outlines their plans for February and beyond.
That means there will be no church services through February 7.
In the interim, we would recommend the following two options for viewing a service in the safety of your home:
Wesley United Church in Newfoundland – service should start at 9:30 a.m. our time. Scroll down for live service link box in the middle of the page
A later service – 11 a.m. at Bethel UC Rideau Ferry
On a positive note, the active COVID cases in Western Leeds and Grenville
(our segment of the United Counties) on Monday, January 18, 2021 was two (2).
On December 10, it was nineteen (19).
Hopefully, the worst is over, but we all need to remain diligent in following Government guidelines.
On a second positive note, Duncan has just published our 2020 financial results
and while our donations were down by $6,700 from 2019, expenses were also down by $26,000.
As a result, our net income was $19,300 BETTER than 2019.
We also reduced the transfer from the Long-Term Investment Fund
from $10,000 in 2019 to $6,000 in 2020 which was $3,000 less than our original 2020 budget.
Thanks to everyone for their ongoing commitment to Portland United Church
and your continued donations that cover the expenses required to keep Portland United Church afloat.
EUC Community Check-in
Please keep Donna Bennett in your prayers as she awaits test results and further treatment following recent surgery.
Donna, know that you are loved and cared for deeply.
2020 Annual Report
Preparation has begun for the 2020 Annual Report.
Some committee reports have already been submitted. If you are someone who has not yet submitted a report,
please do so no later than Wednesday, January 27, 2021.
I need time to collect all the information and submit it into a report.
The report needs to be completed by mid February.
If you were a Chair of a Committee for 2020 you are required to submit your report even though you may have recently resigned.
Reports should be e-mailed to Annette Clarke at email@example.com .
If you would rather submit your report by paper, please drop it into the mailbox in the vestibule of the parking lot entrance of Portland United Church.

Pastoral Care Update
Most of you will know that I have taken on a role in our church as the Pastoral Care Coordinator.
COVID-19 has made in-person visits very difficult. With this in mind, I want to be able to contact each of you in the near future.
In this regard, our church secretary Annette Clarke and myself have been working on trying to update the church information for our members.
We have discovered that we are missing some information which would be valuable to have on hand so that my contacting you will be more efficient.
I want to be able to wish you happy birthday and happy anniversary,
I would love to hear that you’ve welcomed a new family member into your household.
Or maybe you are struggling (and many are) with loneliness or that feeling you are losing contact with people.
We all have different needs. I want to reach out and let you know you are not alone and that I care.
In these trying times our telecommunications information becomes so vital. So here is what I’m asking from each of you:
Please take the time and send me updated information about you and your family –
anything that will assist me in being able to reach you –
birthdates, anniversary dates, phone numbers, addresses, and especially e-mail addresses.
This way I will be sure to contact you and check up with you.
My email address is firstname.lastname@example.org and Annette is email@example.com.
I want you to know that as part of our church family you are loved and we care.
I will talk with you soon. God’s blessing on you.
