Devotional Thought, June 3, 2023
The song with the words: “And I think to myself, what a wonderful world” has been playing in my head these past few days. But maybe, just maybe, you may not be thinking that right now. Life changes every day. Sometimes, we have no control over it. Sometimes, the change is unexpected. Often, we don’t want it.
Just this week, here within our congregations, we have had serious illness. Some of our beloved members are experiencing grief. Even as you read this, you are probably aware of family members who are struggling with mental health issues, concerns over exams, a job placement for the summer. Perhaps money matters keep you awake at night. My list is, of course, incomplete because for each of us, we are affected in various ways and with different circumstances.
I really just want to be a beacon of hope for you. You are never alone. And for this reason, we can look at our lives and still gives thanks. That does not mean there will be no tears, no anger, no questioning.
For each of us, I believe I have been led to share the following verses of Scripture. There are 7 – one for each day. But perhaps you might need to hold them close and read them each day. May you find strength, courage, hope and love.
Romans 15: 13 NIV
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Philippians 4:19 NIV
And my God will supply every need of yours according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
Isaiah 41:10 NLT
Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with My hand.
Hebrews 4: 16 ESV
Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Philippians 4: 13 ESV
I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me.
Hebrews 13: 6 ESV
So, we can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can anyone do to me?”
1 John 5: 14,15 LB
And we are sure of this, that God will listen to us whenever we ask for anything in line with His will. And if we really know God is listening when we talk to Him and make our requests, then we can be sure that He will answer us.
May each of you find courage this week as you walk in the light of God.
