Devotional Reflection February 14, 2026

A down-to-earth devotional for a monumental occasion. That is what is called for today. Cinnamon hearts, love letters, messages spread across the sky; valentine cards, boxes of chocolate, engagement rings; bouquets of flowers; phone calls overseas, declarations of forever love.

We have heard about, read about, experienced it for ourse

Every day our lives take on compllves.

Yet, it does not come that simply.ex issues and we are called to work with them, in some way. For instance, today should be all about those who have spent years together, making a home together, raising families. You know what I mean, when I say: Love at home! But for thousands around us, that is not their reality.

It should be about those young people who are discovering those moments of sheer joy from a girl’s first kiss. Or the unexpected ‘date night’. Or the planning of a prom.

The expectations of today, Valentine’s Day’, is only outweighed by the capitalism of Christmas. Every store promotes this kind of love. A love that will last a lifetime.

Amidst the hearts, cupids, and professed love, there remains a reality that thousands have learned – this love is not forever – but only for a short time. It is a vibrant love, while this life lasts. But what then?

We are approaching that time of year when the greatest gift of love once again comes to the forefront. The real meaning of love is poured out for the world, but the world misses it.

We are drawing close to the time of year when the ‘Real thing’ is shown to us. The meaning of sacrificial love is revealed once again. But still thousands will miss it.

Never has there been anyone who came close to showing love like Jesus Christ. Only Christ has given His life that we might have eternal life.

That alone is a never-ending reality.

As Valentine’s Day comes and goes, and all the beautiful memories fade until next year, let us take the time to focus on the real meaning of love for all those who believe in LOVE – the Gift of God.
