EPPC News for Portland United Church As everyone knows, the province is on lockdown through the end of January and there can only be 10 people maximum, socially distanced in church services. We don’t know what will happen after the end of January. Your Portland United Church Council will be meeting on Wednesday, February 3 by Zoom to discuss next steps once the Province outlines their plans for February and beyond. Due to COVID restrictions, the church’s outside doors will remain locked to visitors.   As of 12:01 this morning Jan 14 2021 new Ontario stay at home rules came into play.  Annette will be working in the office/home for the duration of these “stay at home rules”.  There are some pretty fair fines in place if we are in violation, up to $100,000 for an employer. Portland United Church The active COVID cases in Western Leeds and Grenville have been  37, 36, 37 on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.  Those counts far exceed the threshold of 16 that causes the Sunday church services to be cancelled.  As a result, the church will be closed on Sunday, December 20th, 2020. At this point, Christmas Eve services are also in jeopardy. If the active COVID case count in Western Leeds & Grenville is 16 or higher on Tuesday, December 22 or Wednesday, December 23, Christmas Eve services will be cancelled. EUC Community Check-in–December 5, 2020            Build a Mountain of Food On Saturday, November 28, the Elgin Foodbank held its annual Build A Mountain of Food event at Gordaniers store in Elgin. Members of community again displayed the great generosity they have throughout the pandemic, with monetary donations totaling $5,058 as well giving 800 lbs. of food.
